How to Make a Slam Dunk Minigame

19th March 2016

For this tutorial, you will need:

Or, if you're building in creative mode:

Step 1) Make a rectangle out of either the slime blocks or the command blocks. I did mine 5 x 8

Step 2) In the command blocks, enter the command: effect @p 8 1 2
This'll give the player jump boost level 2 for 1 second.

.

Step 3) Cover the area in either black carpet (slime) or black wool and pressure plates (command blocks).

Step 4) If you are building the mini-game based on commands, you should type this command in chat: gamerule commandBlockOutput false

Step 5) Now, on both models, put a 4 or 5 block high tower of fence posts with a cobweb coming out from the inner side.

Step 6) Finally, put in your renamed magma cubes, snowballs or slime balls into a chest and you are ready to play!

To play, simply jump up and down, throwing you slam dunk balls into the cobwebs. If you have aimed perfectly, it should stay hovering above the cobweb for a second before being picked up.

How to Make a Slow Rail for Junctions

12th March 2016

For this redstone tutorial, you will need:

1 item/block of your choice,
1 comparator
1 repeater
2 redstone dust
2 hoppers
and around 7 powered rails.

Step 1) Dig a trench 2x5 blocks across and 3 blocks deep

Step 2) At the front, place two blocks like a staircase going out to the right

Step 3) At the back left, place two hoppers going into each other and put in the block/item of your choice. It should flash in and out of the hopper.

Step 4) Coming out of the hoppers and towards the stairs, place a comparator and then a repeater. These too should flash on and off.

Step 5) Now place your redstone dust coming up the stairs and out of the trench and place your rails going along the outside.

This is perfect for fast rollercoasters that need slowing down in order to switch a lever at a junction rather than having a lot of regular rails dragging it out.

How to Improve your Builds in Minecraft

9th March 2016

Today I'm going to be showing you a few ways you can improve your builds in Minecraft. Some of these will only work for certain types of designs and may make others look messy, but the most important thing is to experiment.

Tip 1) Try establishing a pallet and style. If you have quartz here, sandstone here and a bit of prismarine here, it's going to look very messy and dis-organised.

Tip 2) Think ahead. Sometimes planning your build can really help, especially if you tend to get stuck half-way through something and then give up on it. However, for some people, just making it up as they go along can bring out their creativity and create an amazing effect.

Tip 3) Be original and try new things. If all of your treehouses so far have been standing alone, try making one joining two or three together, if all of your houses have been bungalows, try making one hotel style. Even if it turns out looking terrible, you'll almost certainly have learned something new about your style.

Tip 4) Publish your designs. This may seem a bit scary and daunting at first, but feedback is one of the number one things you can use to your advantage when trying to create something amazing. Planet Minecraft is a great place to publish some of your creations. If you are too scared to publish it for the world to see however, just show it to your friends and family.

Tip 5) Look at other's ideas. You can totally use someone else's principle and improve upon it - just make sure that if you have got most of it from them, that you credit them if you publish it. Even the most basic ideas can be improved upon to make something amazing.

How to make a rideable Plane with Redstone and Slime

5th March 2016

In this Redstone tutorial, you will need:

2 Regular Pistons,

1 Sticky Piston,

2 Slime Blocks,

1 Boat or 1 Minecart and Rail,

and 2 Redstone Blocks.

Step 1) A few blocks off the ground (or more if you're feeling ambitious), place 1 piston and one sticky piston back to back. The normal piston should be facing the way you want your plane to go.

Step 2) Place the slime blocks either side of your pistons. So far, your plane should have 4 blocks going in the order : Slime block, Sticky piston, Regular Piston, Slime block.

Step 3) On top of both of the Slime blocks, place the redstone blocks. Now, it should be in a bit of a U shape.

Step 4) Now place your boat or minecart so it goes on top of the pistons.

Step 5) Finally, put your last piston so it pushes the slime block attached the sticky piston and then you can get in and ride!

If you want to, you can add extra blocks on the sides of the Slime to make it look a bit more like a plane - or you could take the idea further and make a humongous slime robot like the one featured in our Top 3 Redstone Creations list.
