Earlier this year, mid February my family and I where doing some sorting out of our garage. We had the had the garage door open so we could have quick access to the bin to throw out any garbage we may have had lying around since our move over to the Greater Western side of Sydney. Midway sorting my brother had noticed a rather small, and incredibly active dog running back and forth across the street. We stopped to see if there was an owner nearby but the dog was most certainly unattended for.
The dog appeared to be healthy looking, very friendly, a cross of a Jack Russell and female. Restless and excited, it was clear that all she wanted was to play. My brother closed our gate and kept her in our front yard to avoid her from getting injured, or worse from getting hot by a car. Himself and my other brother went door-to-door, asking around to see if the dog had escaped from its original home. There seemed to be no luck. So we decided to put up some signs describing the physical features of the her and stuck them all around the neighbourhood.
The next step we took was calling the nearest veterinary. Unfortunately, it was too late to drop her off there. They had already closed for the day and were advised to come the next morning. Our concern at the time was that her owners would have been devastated not having her home that night. We fed her and made her feel as welcome as possible. Our 14 year old Pomeranian, Sonic had lovely company that night.
The following morning we took her to the local vet. If there any issues were told that we would be notified asap. Post the microchip scan, it was discovered that the the dog was previously owned by a couple few houses down. They said that their dog, named Biscuit at the time, was "missing for over 3 months." The vet as well as my family found that story to be quite strange looking at the state that the dog was in. She appeared to be well-fed and well-groomed. Thoughts were that she would have been taken care of other people. In the end, her owners didn't want her anymore, that she had been replaced. They had neglected the poor puppy, abandoning her on the very street they resided on. Over the phone we were give the opportunity to adopt her or she would have been taken to the pound where she would have most likely, been put down.
My family came to the conclusion that such a beautiful creature deserved a second chance to a home of love and care. We adopted her that day ad we named her Jovie.
Jovie is now taken well care of and we absolutely adore her to bits. She is a happy and healthy addition to our family and we most definitely have no regrets. She brings as much joy to our family as a newborn child would. "She welcomes me home everyday after work, she is a member of this family" (S.Rajakumar,(2016). Jovie, a little blessing she is.
