Pros of Renewable Energy
Stable energy prices- The cost of producing energy from renewable sources is directly related to the amount of money spent on the infrastructure, this means more stable prices.
Reliability- Every morning the sun rises, and wind is always blowing. This makes sources like solar energy and wind power very reliable, much more reliable than fossil fuels.
Low Greenhouse Gas Emissions- Most sources of renewable energy have much lower carbon footprints. This will make the environment much healthier because it will no longer be polluted with Co2 and other dangerous gasses.
Low Cost Operations- Once in place, most renewable energy sources have a much lower cost of overall operations than fossil fuels. This could balance out the higher cost of development.
Micro Stations Possible- Solar panels on homes, and small wind farms are possible to put in remote areas.
Cons of Renewable Energy
High Development Costs- It is very expensive to develop renewable energy stations. This makes the already known sources of fossil fuels less costly.
Vulnerable- Almost all renewable energy sources are vulnerable to weather conditions. They depend on sun and wind heavily. Lots of rain and slow winds can slow down energy production.
No Large Quantities- Renewable energy can’t produce large amounts of energy in a short amount of time, while coal powered electric plants can.
Large Areas Are Needed- Lots of solar panels and wind farms would be needed to produce enough energy. All of this takes up a lot of space.
Not Available in all Areas- With renewable energy, raw materials are needed, wind, water, and solar intensity are not available in all locations. That means infrastructure for transporting the energy is needed.
